Lou Reed, Green Day among Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees

The 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees were announced October 9.   Out of the 15 nominees, only five will be inducted into the famous hall.  The following artists made the list:

  • Joan Jett & the Blackhearts- The artists performed at the State Fair last Sunday, the closing night of the fair. 
  • Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble- Blues guitar sensation was joined by blues rock band Double Trouble for his final album, Texas Flood. 
  • The Marvelettes-American girl group known for their number one single “Please Mr. Postman”. 
  • Kraftwerk-German electronic music band that formed in 1970, known for hits “Die Roboter” and “The Model”. 
  • The Smiths-English rock band that formed in 1982, known for hit “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now”. 
  • Lou Reed-American musician, singer, and songwriter.  Known for hits “Walk on the Wild Side” and “Coney Island Baby”. 
  • War-American funk band known for songs “Low Rider” and “Why Can’t We Be Friends?”.
  • Nine Inch Nails-American industrial rock act founded by current member Trent Reznor. 
  • N.W.A-American hip hop group from Compton, California.  Members included Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. 
  • The Paul Butterfield Blues Band-Blues band whose hits include “All These Blues” and “Double Trouble”. 
  • Chic-American band that formed in 1976, whose genres included disco, funk, and soul. 
  • Green Day-American punk rock band known for hits “21 Guns” and “Holiday”. 
  • The Spinners-American soul music group that formed in 1954, and have been actively performing ever since. 
  • Bill Withers-American musician, singer, and songwriter.  Known for number one hits “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Lean on Me”. 
  • Sting-If inducted, he will be among 20 other inductees who have been inducted twice or more, due to his induction with his band The Police in 2003.
