What classifies the Paralympic Games as their own is that the athletes have a physical barrier they must overcome in order to compete. These impairments may consist of visual impairment, limb loss, or limb deficiency.

The Paralympics have started in Sochi, and already three American women alpine skiers have earned medals. Allison Jones earned bronze in the downhill standing event. Alana Nichols won silver and Laurie Stephens won bronze in the downhill sitting event.

Tonight watch out for the men’s alpine skiing super-G events and men’s 15 km sitting and women’s 12km sitting cross country skiing, with Paralympic coverage airing on the NBC Sports Network.
