Remember all those days you SAT around stressing about standardized tests? Worry no longer, ACT now.
- First things first, practice! Take practice tests so you know how the questions will be worded and can get used to the format.
- Prepare your body for the SAT and ACT tests too, not just your mind. If you’re feeling stressed about the upcoming test, try exercise. Go on a run, go to the gym, play soccer, whatever you enjoy that gets you moving.
- Gather all materials that you will need for the morning the night before: a calculator, number two pencils, a photo identification card, and your admission card.
- Dress in layers, you never know what temperature the room is going to be.
- Arrive early to find the room, or even better, go to the test site a couple of days before if you are unfamiliar with the location.
- Take both tests. You won’t know if the SAT or ACT suits you best unless you try both. Then you can pick the highest score to send to colleges.
- Always read the directions.
- Never guess randomly; for the ACT, eliminate the answers you know are wrong and then make an educated guess, for the SAT if you don’t understand it, skip the question.
- You’ll do your best if you spend equal amounts of time on every question, if you can’t get to an answer after a minute or two, skip it.
- The essay readers are mainly looking at whether you can answer the question with a powerful argument that flows and is concise.
- Relax. At the end of the day, it’s just a test.
