Staff Writer
Mr. Andrew Coffey
Colleges: Coffey attended
the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill for a bachelor's in history,
transferred to Appalachian State University for English, then back to Carolina
to finish his English degree.
Past Teaching Experience: A student teacher in Carrboro County, then spent a few years teaching at East
Chapel Hill High School.
Inspiration: “Really great
history teachers in high school.” Yes,
he is an English teacher. He has several
history teachers who he found impressive. “I liked how they would admit when
they didn’t know stuff.”
Best High School Memory: “Graduating!”
Most Embarrassing High School Memory: “The way I behaved,” he admits “It was
all about my own little world.”
Hobbies: Hiking, camping,
backpacking, cooking, and tabletop roleplaying games to name a few. However “Reading is number one.”
Favorite
food:
“Sandwiches are so versatile! A burger
is a sandwich, tacos are a kind of sandwich,” he explains. “Like an abstract
sandwich.”
The
Beard Bonus:
The thick beard Coffey sports has not always been in his life. “My best friend had a beard, and I was twenty
two or twenty three with no beard.” But
since 2009, Coffey has been cultivating his jaw warmer and plans to keep it, for
practical reasons of course. “It’s much
easier than shaving.”
