The Cougars run out ready to start the season.
The Cougars defeated the Leesville Road Pride at Apex on Thursday, August 28, winning by a score of 44-14. It is the first time Apex has bested the Pride since 2004.

The game began as a tight contest with Apex scoring on its first drive of the game answered by a long Leesville touchdown pass on the following series. Apex went on to take the lead going into halftime by a score of 24-14. The second half of the game was dominated by the Cougars who scored 20 unanswered points. The Apex scoring run was led by junior running back Isaiah Totten who ran for over 200 yards and scored five touchdowns.

Apex has started the season 2-0, also defeating Harnett Central by a score of 46-10 on August 22, matching their win total from all of last season. It is the first such start for Apex since 2008, a year in which the team reached the third round of the state playoffs.

“What I’m thinking about the season so far: excited,” says head coach Joe Kilby. “It’s a huge confidence builder…It gives us some momentum going forward.”

“The team has a new attitude,” says senior offensive lineman Will McCord. “We’ve won two games already, same as all last season. We just have to keep working hard and not let it get to our heads.”
