The North Hills area of Raleigh held the grand opening of its new one acre Midtown Park and Amphitheater this past weekend. Event organizers held two festivals over the weekend to introduce the new park as well as create a family-fun experience for everyone.

The park includes a vast space designed for the enjoyment of both children and adults. This summer, it will hold a monthly series of Bluegrass concerts on Sundays for people of all ages. North Hills events manager Dawn Baker describes it as “a laid-back concert option that appeals to both young and old alike.” Park designers Thomas Sayre and Fred Belledin stated that they wanted to design an amphitheater that stands out even when the stage is empty. Kids can climb walls and stones around the amphitheater as well as play near the water fountain. Sayre said, “It’s just as important as a green park space, as a space for people to hang out in. We knew that if we can make this a cool place for kids, it would almost guarantee its use for all seasons.”

Restaurants and shops are conveniently located within close walking distance of the new park. The $10.5 million park is located on the east side of Six Forks Road between Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant and the new Midtown Green apartment complex.
