Apex Peak Players’ Production of Godspell was phenomenal, with a cast
filled with vocal talent and an ensemble that brought the show together. The
technical aspects were spot-on, and the onstage band was a hit, never missing a
beat. The audience was always attentive and, whether they were laughing,
crying, or even being called onstage. This musical was exciting, full of great
musical numbers along with a heartwarming story.
Godspell, loosely based on
the gospel of Matthew, follows Jesus and his disciples through the parables. This production is set in modern times at a
subway station, where His followers unite to form a community. The lighting often
synced with the beat of the music, making the onstage band not only sound, but
look incredible.
There were many notable performances, such as
junior Will Stapleton’s, who played the role of Jesus Christ, portraying
compassion, love, and sorrow flawlessly. He brought great diversity to the
performance by showing the emotional pain and suffering Christ went through. The
show would not be even close to what it was if it were not for the impeccable
ensemble, which ultimately made the show.

The cast performing "We Beseech Thee" |
The musical numbers were incredible. Seniors
Sarah Crowley’s solo of “Day by Day” and Katie Bowyer’s “Light of the World”
performances were both fantastic and uplifting. The performances by sophomore
Rachel Cessna in “By My Side” and juniors Josh Menzies and David Flowers in “On
the Willows” were breath-taking. Tears were shed not only by the audience but by
the cast as well. My favorite song, however, was “We Beseech Thee”, the high
energy was great and junior Brad Gooch’s performance was stellar.
Overall, Godspell
was an enormous success, and it brings us to look forward to many more great
productions in the future.
