Google is expanding a membership program to
make shopping much easier for customers. If you live in Manhattan or west Los
Angeles, Google will deliver online purchases to your front door the day the
order is placed for a $5 fee. The service was first launched in San Francisco
last year. West L.A. and Manhattan residents
will be able to get anything they want from Costco, L'Occitane, Staples,
Target, Walgreens and Babies "R" Us through the service. Google is planning to expand this service to the
rest of New York City, but they are going to start with Manhattan for now and
has a website, www.google.com/shopping/express, dedicated to its one day
shipping service.
Google’s same day delivery is cheaper than Amazon’s, which is
$5.99 per order. On top of that, it requires an Amazon Prime membership, which
costs $100 a year. For non-Prime members
same day delivery fee is $10 for the first item and $0.98 per each additional
item. EBay also has a stake in the same day delivery service market, and
delivers to San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas,
San Jose and parts of NYC. For $5, you can order items from Target, Urban
Outfitters, Best Buy and Macy's, but there is a $25 minimum order.
