Prom is less than a month away, ladies! Here are some ideas to top off your dress.

Let loose without letting your hair down this prom season. When dancing the night away with your friends, it can get really humid. The best way to keep your hair looking beautiful is to keep it up.
  • Pinned Bun: Buns are an easy and simple way to look classy at prom. Sock buns can be used to have a perfect ballerina type bun. Alternatively, curling hair and pinning it into a circle creates an equally elegant look.
  • Half Updo: If your hair is shorter or you really want to wear it down, curled and pinned locks are perfect for a polished look.  It’s a complementary look for strapless or low-backed dresses.
  • Curled Bob: This is a great style for those with short hair.  Classic pincurls or messy tresses can amp up your short hairstyle.  You can channel an inner Gatsby vibe by topping it off with a vintage type headband.
  • Braided Crown: Braids are quick, easy and they add a chic and Bohemian flair to whatever you’re wearing.  There are various tutorials online showing easy techniques for intricate woven strands.
  • Sleek Pony:  A polished ponytail gives a sophisticated classy look and is great for long hair lengths.  All that’s needed is a brush, hairband and a bit of frizz control spray.

Complete your look with must have prom accessories listed below.
  • Shoes: Prom shoes should be relatively formal and somewhat comfortable to be dancing around in.  Break the shoes in by wearing them around the house a few weeks prior to prom. For longer dresses think about where the hemline will be while wearing whatever shoes you decide on.
  • Hair Accessories: Some ideas for hair accents include jeweled headbands, embellished pins, faux flowers, tiaras, and delicate chains. These items can be found affordably at Claire’s, Glitter, and Target.
  • Purse/Clutch: Keep all your personal items in one safe area while having a cute accessory for your gown. Great formal handbags priced affordably can be found at Kohls, T.J. Maxx, or at Charming Charlies.
  • Jewelry: Necklaces and earrings can add an elegant accent to many different dresses. With a simple dress, large statement earrings or necklaces depending on the neckline, can add some sparkle.  A great place to find affordable faux diamond and pearl jewelry is Claire’s.
Whether you are a DIY enthusiast or a nail salon gal, here are some ideas on how to  prep your paws for prom.
  • French Tips: For a classic look that never fails choose the clean lines of a french manicure. Easily done with a few coats of nude polish and a nice white swipe across the tip.  Tape and precision Q-tips can help with creating a smooth finish.
  • Floral designs: Complement your corsage with floral fingertips.  Apply a base coat and using either pastel colors, or vibrant shades, swirl the colors to create a miniature bouquet on each nail.
  • Beads and bows: Bedazzle your fingertips with mini beads, bows and glitter for an extra bit of sparkle.  Small nail art kits that can be found in most cosmetics aisles offer an array of shine and shimmer to add to your polished tips.
  • Accent nail: Play up a typical manicure with an accent nail, using it to contrast and make a statement.  A simple way is to have a complementary color on the ring finger, such as a light blue against pale peach.
  • Ombre: The dark to light blending of colors is the hottest trend this year and done with the mere dab of a sponge.
  • Marbled nail: While a bit tricky to master, the marbled nail yields a unique and beautiful design every time.  In essence the same technique as marbled paper, only you substitute polish for ink and fingernails for paper.
  • Stick on nails: When time or skill is in short supply, stick on nails offer plenty of great designs.  When done well stick on nails can fool your friends into thinking you went over budget in the salon.
Get your face looking flawless at prom. Here are three traditional styles for formal wear makeup:
  • Smokey Eye: A great way to show off your natural eye color is by highlighting the eyelid line with eye liner and deep shades of eye shadow. Target and Ulta have inexpensive smoky eye kits that include deep shades of neutral toned eye shadows. Also, a great combo for smoky eyes is a deep lipstick, like a shade of red or violet.
  • Natural Nude: The “no-makeup” look is easy to achieve when neutral colored eye shadows and liners are applied lightly. You can even add a light sparkle eyeliner to make your eyes shine.
  • Colorful: Bring out your dress color with vibrant eye shadow or lipstick. It is better to stick with either one or the other. Too much color can distract from the dress.
Applying makeup for special occasions like prom, can be difficult and hiring a makeup artist can be pricey. There are many ways to highlight your best features with makeup.  A quick google search will yield guides on the different ways to flatter various facial structures.
