Blue Bell ice cream has recalled all of their products due to concerns over the bacteria Listeria.

Blue Bell began their recall after three of five infected adults died last month.  An investigation from this revealed cartons of Blue Bell ice cream that tested positive for Listeria, prompting the voluntary large scale recall. This is Blue Bell’s first recall in over 108 years according to the frozen dessert company. Chief Executive of Blue Bell, Paul Kruse, released a video online Monday apologizing for the contamination.

Sabra and Amy’s Kitchen have recalled their products over the possible Listeria contamination, including 30,000 cases of hummus after one of the cases tested positive for Listeria in Michigan.  As of now, no illnesses have occurred from the Sabra classic hummus. FoodSafety.gov lists Listeria as a bacteria that can be found in milk, dairy products and raw sprouts.  The sprouts may be how Amy’s Kitchen products became contaminated.  A shipment of spinach was delivered from one of their suppliers who later informed them that the spinach may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.  Amy’s Kitchen is a promoter of their organic, non-genetically modified products which include frozen dinners such as lasagnas, pizzas, and wraps.

According to the Center for Disease Control the populations most at risk for listeriosis are, “pregnant women, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems.”  On the CDC’s website it lists the different products recalled and how to identify them by serial numbers and photos of the products.  By visiting either the CDC website, or those of the companies mentioned before, you can find more information on what products to avoid.
