Former
First Lady Hillary Clinton announced her intentions to run for president on
Sunday April 12, 2015. In her campaign announcement video, Clinton said, “Everyday
Americans need a champion. And I want to be that champion. So I’m hitting the
road to earn your vote — because it’s your time. And I hope you’ll join me on
this journey.” Clinton’s announcement comes with great importance as it could
very well mean that the first presidential nomination of a woman by a major party
could come by next year.
Though
Clinton isn’t the only Democrat that will be on the ballot in 2016, it’s
unlikely that other Democratic candidates such as 9/11 “truther” Jeff Boss,
political performance artist Vermin Supreme (known for wearing his signature boot-hat),
and former head football coach of Savannah State University Robby Wells will
pose a threat to her potential for victory. Of her campaign, husband former
President Bill Clinton had to say, “I’m proud of her.” Media outlets such as
Today.com suggest their daughter Chelsea Clinton will play a helping hand in her
mom’s presidential campaign. Though no official announcement has been made,
Chelsea Clinton did campaign for her mother when she ran for president in 2008.
On
the other hand, well-known GOP candidates Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Jeb
Bush, and many others have announced their run for the presidency in 2016,
though no specific candidate has established their place as party frontrunner.
