Ekeh, a senior at Elmont Memorial High School in Long Island and Nigerian
immigrant, has received acceptance from all eight Ivy League universities. He
also received acceptance from other prestigious schools including MIT and Johns
Hopkins University.
Ekeh and his family had a comfortable life in
Nigeria, but they moved to America for greater educational opportunity. Ekeh
says he had trouble adapting to American life at first, citing specifically a
cluelessness in American history classes, but soon began to prosper with the
help of his school and community.
Ekeh
has a 100.5% GPA and scored a 2270 on his SAT. Outside of school, he is a
member of Key Club, Model UN, and directs a youth choir at his church. He
speaks English, Spanish, and Igbo. Ekeh also conducts private research in his
school’s chemistry lab during his free time. He was awarded a semifinalist
position in the 2015 Intel Science Talent Search for his findings on how the
acid DHA can slow the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
Ekeh
wants to study neurobiology or chemistry and plans to move on to medical school
after college to become a neurosurgeon. He will spend the next few weeks
visiting universities before he decides on which one he will attend.
