Apex’s
annual “Christmas on Salem Street” events will be held December 5-7 in historic
downtown Apex. Events begin at 5:00 p.m. Friday with Christmas Carols at the
Old Union Depot, followed by the lighting of the Apex Christmas Tree by Mayor
Bill Sutton at 5:30 p.m. Rides down Salem Street in a horse-drawn carriage may
be purchased starting at 6:00 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be riding downtown
on the first carriage that arrives.
Many
other fun activities will be offered on Friday, including ornament making, face
painting, cookie decorating and caroling. There will also be a ballet exhibit
in the Halle Art Center, as well as an old fashioned photo booth.
On
Saturday, the Rotary Club will be hosting the annual Apex Christmas parade, an
event that usually exceeds 15,000 people in attendance. The parade begins at
5:00 p.m. and will have a line-up of over 100 floats. Among the floats will be
classic cars, the Apex High Band, and a float featuring this year’s homecoming
king and queen.
Events
will conclude on Sunday with the Apex Historical Society’s annual tour of
downtown homes.
