With winter weather just around the corner, it's important to be prepared when on the road. Drivers are subject to many risks and dangers when the cold season comes around. Check out these helpful tips to stay safe during the winter season:
  • Keep your gas tank full to decrease the chance of a fuel line freeze.
  • Change worn tires. All-weather tires are good choice for a multitude of road conditions, such as ice, snow, and rain.
  • Keep air pressure steady, because pressure decreases in cold temperatures.
  • Have a bag of salt on hand to melt snow in an emergency.
  • When in doubt, drive slowly or stay where you are if possible.

Mishaps are sometimes unavoidable, so it is important to be equipped with supplies in case you become stranded. The list below will keep your breakdown as comfortable and convenient as possible.

Keep your car supplied with:
  • A warm blanket
  • Extra clothes
  • Nonperishable food
  • Water
  • Ice scraper
  • Flashlight
  • Flares
  • Jumper cables
  • Salt
  • Tool/repair kit
  • At least one spare tire
  • First aid kit
  • Entertainment

Before an emergency happens, enter the number of a reputable gas station or towing service into your cell phone contacts. AAA and several insurance companies offer roadside assistance to their members in the event of a breakdown or other accident.
Follow these tips and you’ll have less to worry about this winter.
