Prom: the pros and cons

PROS (Nash):
Prom is THE night to remember. Whenever thinking back on high school, many remember their prom; it’s a rite of passage in a teenager’s life.

Dressing Up:
Everyone wants to look like a prince or princess, to get out of everyday clothes and to dress to the nines.

Friends:
You get to spend an entire night with all of your friends. You get to dance and have a ball, out of the ordinary “hang out” like simple movie nights or going to dinner and in a completely new element. You get to do something extravagant rather than your everyday run of the mill activities.

Dancing:
Prom is all about the dancing. It doesn’t matter if you can barely keep time or if you are a professional break dancer, you can still get out on the dance floor and enjoy everything prom has to offer.

CONS (Santos):
Prom is just another night. It’s nothing special. Prom isn’t anything more than a supervised hang-out session with your friends that costs money, takes place in a hotel and brings along with it many pointless obligations like dressing up and paying for your date’s dinner.

Dressing up:
No one really wants to look like a prince or princess, to get out of their everyday clothes and to dress to the nines. Come on, we all know that jeans and a t-shirt beat a tux or prom dress twenty times over in wearability.

Friends:
Do something actually fun with your friends rather than being faced with the burden of actually having to put on something nice, get a haircut, shave and shower before prom. If you have to do more than one of those things to prepare for any one event, then it’s probably not worth it.

Dancing:
Don’t even get me started on the dancing. I’ve never seen a sorrier excuse for the art of dance than what I’ve seen at school sponsored events. I think we all know what I’m talking about. If that constitutes as dance, then Scary Movie 5 is a cinematic masterpiece worthy of an Oscar.
