New English teacher, Emily Regan, is not only new to the teaching staff here at Apex High, but also to the coaching staff for the JV and varsity volleyball teams. She previously taught English at Franklinton High School for two years and coached volleyball as well. “I’ve always liked English. It was the most interesting and fun to me,” Regan remarks. Her motivation for becoming a teacher came from a teacher at her high school. “I had a really good English teacher in high school and high school is a really important part of life.”

Handling the pressure of being the new coach has been fairly smooth. “I had help from Coach O’Connell,” Regan says on getting advice from former coach Nikki O’Connell and learning about the traditions and expectations. Balancing coaching and teaching is tough. “I have no time anymore. I try to separate the two different jobs,” Regan says.

Both the JV and varsity teams have an amazing lead in the season with varsity 7-1. “The girls have great chemistry, and it’s not hard to motivate them,” Regan says on the team’s strengths. The biggest competition is, “Holly Springs, we’re tied right now, and Green Hope is always competitive.” Apex High beat Holly Springs 3-1 on September 4.
