A deep maroon color known as marsala has been chosen as the 2015 Color of the Year by Leatrice Eiseman. Eiseman is the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute and has chosen the color of the year for the past 13 years. The company Pantone is known as the provider of color and is partnered with Sephora.

Choosing the color is a big ordeal that is taken seriously by the Pantone Company. Eiseman and her team decide on the color by looking at previous trends throughout the fashion, beauty, and design world. The color marsala was chosen for various reasons as stated on the Pantone website. The color is equally appealing to both genders, flattering to many skin tones, and filled with warmth. The earthy shade of red wine has been selected for fashion, beauty, home decorating and design.

Marsala has already met the runway and designers have been creating pieces with the color for their 2015 Spring Fashion shows. The deep color can be paired with many different shades of neutrals and greys and can be a subtle accent to many different colored designs.

Marsala is also being used in the world of beauty. The shade of red can be used as a lipstick, eye shadow, nail polish, or even blush. The color is so versatile that it looks appealing on the majority of skin tones. Interior designers are using the color of the year on walls to capture the warmth the color brings. Fabrics and accent pieces such as colored lamps are also being made in marsala. Graphic designers are also using marsala as an alluring shade to create stationery, packaging, and website backdrops.
