The Daily Show’s host, Jon
Stewart, has announced the end to his 16 year career at Comedy Central. He announced his departure at a live taping
of The Daily Show on Tuesday,
February 10. Stewart will not be leaving immediately, his contract is up in
September of this year, but nothing is concrete yet. “I won’t be leaving the
show right away… We are still working out details. I’m up in September. It
might be around then, but it might be December, might be July,” said Stewart on
his show. He doesn’t have any set plans for when he leaves the show. “I don’t
have any specific plans, but I have a lot of ideas in my head,” said Stewart.
According
to Entertainment Weekly Comedy Central President, Michele Ganeless said, “For the

privilege of working with Jon Stewart. His comedic brilliance is second to
none. Jon has been at the heart of Comedy Central, championing and nurturing

become a cultural touchstone for millions of fans and an unparalleled platform
for political comedy that will endure for years to come. Jon will remain at the
helm of The Daily Show until
later this year. He is a comic genius, generous with his time and talent, and
will always be a part of the Comedy Central family.”

shortlist for Stewart’s replacements is currently in the works.
