Google’s plans to expand their Google Fiber service into the Triangle have been confirmed. At a press conference on January 27, Google officially announced their plans to expand the service into the Triangle, including Carrboro, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Garner, Morrisville and Raleigh. Google Fiber will provide the Triangle with ultra-fast Internet expected to benefit businesses, schools, and Internet users in general.

Google Fiber offers three different services including a free broadband Internet option, a 1 Gbit/s Internet option, and a television and 1Gbit/s Internet service package. The Google Fiber DVR feature can record up to an impressive eight shows at once.

Apex and other surrounding towns have been excluded from the list, though Apex Council members and city staff are working to influence Google to provide the town with high speed Internet as well. Current existing Google Fiber cities include Stanford, Kansas City Metro, Austin, and Provo. Aside from Raleigh-Durham, Google Fiber is expected to come to Nashville, Charlotte, and Atlanta in the coming years.
