Apex Friendship High School is scheduled to open August of the 2015, accepting rising freshmen and sophomores. The Apex Friendship 100 plus acre campus is located on Humie Olive Road in Western Apex. Students from Holly Springs, Panther Creek, and Apex high schools have been selected for reassignment to fill the new school.

Apex Friendship will begin with 1,300 ninth and tenth grade students for the 2015-2016 school year. Once the Apex Friendship class of 2019 reaches their senior year, the school will cap at about 2,500 students easing overcrowding at surrounding schools, including Apex High.  Around 50 or more teachers and staff will be employed at the time of its opening. Applications for teachers who wish to transfer schools can be submitted starting February 2.

As for layout, the four level facility will feature an 850 seat auditorium and two gyms. The cafeteria will have both indoor and outdoor seating. The media center will have cafe style seating with an abundance of windows to add natural light and a view of the campus. Sport fans will have a football, baseball and soccer field, as well as tennis courts and a track.  There is also a student parking lot.

Apex Friendships principal, Matt Wight, former principal of Apex High, plans to hire staff throughout the upcoming spring and summer prior to the school opening. Wight has already begun the process with the selection of the athletic director, Matt Clifton, a previous physical education teacher at Holly Springs High. As for the mascot and school colors, Wight gathered a conference with some rising Apex Friendship students for their personal input. Wight favored a unique mascot that would be distinct most of the commonly used mascot’s names, such as Eagles, Tigers, Knights, or Wild Cats. The chosen school colors are red and blue, with Patriots as the mascot.

For those Friendship bound, there is an informational meeting at Lufkin Road Middle School at 7 p.m on February 11. For further information and to view photos of the construction and features of Apex Friendship High click here.
