Kerry Piper
Previous jobs: “During college, one of my professors told me to become an ‘eco bum,’ taking any job as long as they paid, and see the world.” Piper studied environment education at Big Cyprus National Preserve in Florida, then shorebird research in northern Alaska. She then participated in swallow research in Argentina, including the southernmost point in the world, Ushuaia. Afterward, she joined the Peace Corps to work in Panama. Before coming to Apex High School, Piper taught at Northern Vance High School.

Motivation to become a teacher: “I feel like teaching is a profession where you can incorporate a lot of different ideas.”

Reason for choosing science: “Science is interesting, one of the most useful subjects. Knowing the world around you and staying healthy.”
