Apex football falls once more at home

It was another game ending in a home loss for Apex (1-4) last Friday as the Middle Creek Mustangs (3-2) claimed a 21-7 win. It was the fourth straight loss for Apex and the first win for Middle Creek who came off a road loss to undefeated Wakefield.

The Mustangs got off to a quick start and moved the ball in a hurry, scoring touchdowns on each of their first three possessions. However, Apex managed to strike back near the end of the second quarter when sophomore quarterback Ian Boyd ran the ball for an 84 yard touchdown, giving the Cougars some momentum going into the second quarter.

After halftime, the Cougar defense adjusted and played well, not giving up a single point in the entire second half. “It was part halftime adjustments,” said Apex head coach Joe Kilby. “But from a coaching perspective, it was the players and their raw determination.” Unfortunately, the offense failed to score in the half as well.

The Cougars travel to Fuquay-Varina this week to face the 3-2 Bengals. Their next home game is homecoming versus Athens Drive on October 11.
