Applying for financial aid can seem like a very daunting task. You’re applying for money to help pay for the next four or five years of your life. Whatever you borrow in loans could follow you around for the rest of your life. But don’t fret, it’s not as scary as it seems.

Applying for financial aid is really simple; all you have to do is complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For this form you will need the following information:

• Your social security number
• Your parents’ social security numbers (if you are providing parent information)
• Your driver’s license number (if you have one)
• Your Alien Registration number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
• Federal tax information or tax returns

The State Employee Credit Union (SECU), Wake Tech, Meredith College, and Saint Augustine’s University will be holding a financial aid day on Feb. 23. During this event, financial aid specialists will be available to assist students with the completion of the FAFSA form. The event is open to students who plan to attend college in the 2013-14 academic year. If you are planning to attend this event at any of the SECU locations you have to be a member of the credit union. All locations require you to register for the event.
