With just a week left until their DECA Rave, seniors Matt Bailey, Michael Silk, and Jeff Valdini are adding final touches to make it truly The Event of a Lifetime. The rave will take place on Saturday, December 15, from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Dreamsports Center of Apex. Featuring a combination of dancing, lights, refreshments, and one of the Triangle’s most recognized, awarded, and sought after DJ’s, the event is sure to be hopping.
Tickets are currently on sale in Mr. Murphy’s room for $10 and will be $12 at the door. All of the proceeds from The Event of a Lifetime go towards the creation of Hope Springs Village, a proposed community for adults living with mental disabilities that caters to their specific needs and offers them a lifestyle of equal opportunity. “Many adults living with mental disabilities are dependent upon their family members. Hope Springs Village will provide readily accessible medical care to the village’s citizens while allowing them to live on their own,” said Michael Silk. Hope Springs is to be built within the next couple of years, but the location is not yet decided. Also at the rave will be a banner for those who wish to pledge against saying the “R-word,” retarded, in a derogatory way.
Bailey, Silk, and Valdini have worked hard during the past four months to gather sponsors, find a venue and DJ, and advertise the event. Some of the sponsors include AutoPark Honda, Atlantic Tire, Salem Street Pub and the Apex Sunrise Rotary Club. Island Sound DJ Company will be providing music and a light show. “Our goal is to have 500 students come to the rave and raise $5,000-$6,000,” said Silk. All students from local high schools between the ages of 14-19 are invited to The Event of a Lifetime.
