Gift-giving in the holiday season can be tricky or confusing. Gift-giving etiquette can help you make the right decision. Here are some tips to keep in mind this time of year.

How much should I spend on gifts?
The cost of the gift doesn't matter, as long as it's a thoughtful and nice present within your means. Make a list of people you want to give to this season, and fit each into a set budget.
Do I have to reciprocate every gift that I receive?
No. A simple "thank you" is sufficient.
Do I need to include a gift receipt?
Yes, the gift receipt makes the return process for an unwanted gift easier. Don't give a gift without this courteous geseture. Most stores will provide a gift voucher.
Are thank you cards necessary?
Hand-written notes are the optimal response to receiving a gift if you are unable to thank someone in person. E-mail and text message thank you notes are not ideal, but are better than nothing.
Is it okay to give presents to people who celebrate a different holiday than you?
Yes, as long as the gift is not related to religion.
Are gift cards acceptable as presents?
Actual presents are preferable, but as long as your gift card requires thought it is acceptable. Gift cards are always better than cash because they are catered more specifically to the recipient.
Can I re-gift?
As long as the present is in its original state, then it is acceptable to re-gift. Make sure the recipient will not know that item is re-gifted byonly giving unused gifts with original packaging and tags.
