Apex residents will have the opportunity to demonstrate their beanbag
throwing skills at the Interact Club’s first annual “Cornament” on April
28. All proceeds from the event will be
donated to the Ronald McDonald House.
The Interact Club, led by senior Frank Campisano, is a community
outreach club that focuses on fundraising for various causes. The Cornament will mark the club’s second
major fundraising initiative. In 2011,
Interact Club raised money for victims of the East Japan Tsunami and ensuing
Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. The
club has also worked with V Week and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The Cornament is a joint effort between the
Interact Club and the Apex Rotary Club.
The event is a cornhole tournament.
Cornhole has become a staple of tailgaters nationwide, and is prominent
locally in pregame festivities of the Carolina Hurricanes. The game consists of teams tossing beanbags,
sometimes filled with dried corn, at special elevated boards. Points are scored by throwing the beanbag
through a small hole cut in the board.
The Apex Cornament will pit teams of two against one another in a
battle royale of corn tossing skill. There
will be a grand prize for the champions, but all participants will receive
something for being there.
The Cornament will be held April 28 in Apex’s Auxillary Gym from 1-5 p.m. The entry fee is $20 for a two person team to
enter. Entry forms will be available in
Student Services and Pod L. Space is
limited and will be determined on a first come, first serve basis. For an afternoon of friends, food, and fun
