The Republican National Convention was held in Tampa from August 27 to August 30. Despite a late start due to Hurricane Isaac churning away in the Caribbean, the convention was filled with memorable moments. From speeches by Republican candidate Mitt Romney, vice presidential pick Paul Ryan and potential first lady Ann Romney, to Clint Eastwood’s completely ad-libbed conversation with an invisible Barack Obama.

Mitt Romney gave what has been dubbed “the most important address of his life” Thursday
night, formally accepting the nomination as the Republican candidate. In his speech, he opened up about his personal history as a Mormon, a businessman, and family man. Romney also outlined his fivestep plan to create 12 million jobs, a plan that promises an energy independent America by 2020, as well as “unmistakable consequences” for nations who cheat in trade, deficit cuts and support of small
businesses.

Romney’s vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan gave a more aggressive speech, framing the campaign against Obama. “What is missing is leadership in the White House,” he stated. Ryan attacked Obama’s healthcare plan, calling it a “government takeover of healthcare,” and criticized his stimulus package, saying it was money “spent and wasted.”

Ann Romney also stole the stage during the convention. She gave a speech “from [her] heart about our hearts,” which highlighted the roles of women in our families and in our nation, and talked about her marriage.  “It's the moms of this nation — single, married, widowed — who really hold this country together. We're the mothers, we're the wives, we're the grandmothers, we're the big sisters, we're the little sisters, we’re the daughters,” she stated.

Besides Romney’s acceptance speech, one of the highlights of the convention was Clint Eastwood’s bizarre 12-minute ad-lib in which he spoke to an “invisible Obama” seated next to him in a chair. The speech generated the most buzz of the weekend as Twitter blew up during Eastwood’s speech, which was directly before Romney spoke.

As the Republican Convention came to a close in Tampa, the Democrats were gearing up for their three days in Charlotte, N.C. from September 3 to September 6. Come back in a few days for coverage of the Democratic National Convention.
