December Movies


The weather outside may be frightful but the movies will be just as delightful. This holiday season offers fresh storylines and old favorites returning to the big screen. Some films will have you falling out of your seat laughing and others may require a box of tissues. ‘Tis the season to go to the theater.

December 7:

Playing For Keeps: Starring Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. George (Butler) isn’t sure what he wants anymore. As a former professional soccer player, his life is in a slump. After taking a coaching job for his son’s soccer team, he gets a job offer as a sports announcer. What’s more important: family or his dream job? Rated PG-13

December 14

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, and Richard Armitage. Gandalf the Grey (McKellen) asks Bilbo Baggins (Freeman) to leave the Shire for the adventure of a lifetime. He accompanies a group of Dwarves, lead by Thorin Oakenshield (Armitage), to the Lonely Mountain. Along the way he finds something very precious that could change the fate of the world. Rated PG-13

December 19:

Monsters, Inc. 3D: Starring John Goodman, Billy Crystal, and Mary Gibbs. When toddler, Boo (Gibbs), escapes from the human world to Monstropolis, she’s in the hands of monsters Mike (Crystal) and Sulley (Goodman) to get her home safely. They’re back and are scarier than ever in 3D. Rated G

The Guilt Trip: Starring Seth Rogen, Barbra Streisand, and Collin Hanks. Andy (Rogen), an inventor, plans a trip across the country to sell his new product. Worried about his mom, he invites her on the eight day road trip. Who knows what they’ll find along the way? Rated R

December 21:

This is 40: Starring Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, and Jason Segel. Somewhat of a sequel to Knocked Up, Pete (Rudd) and Debbie (Mann) feel farther apart than ever. After turning 40 they want to become closer and make changes in their lives for their family. Rated R

Jack Reacher: Starring Tom Cruise, David Oyelowo, and Rosamund Pike. Military police officer, Jack Reacher (Cruise), solves a crime then disappears for a while. A soldier is accused of killing five random victims and Reacher believes he’s innocent. With the police working against him on this case he’s got to find a way to do it on his own. Rated PG-13

December 25:

Les Miserables: Starring Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Helena Bonham Carter, Amanda Seyfried, and Eddie Redmayne. The classically acclaimed novel Les Miserables by Victor Hugo and the musical by Claude-Michel Schonberg is coming to theaters this Christmas. This story follows the life of a prisoner, Jean Valjean (Jackman), in 19th century France during a time of rebellion. He takes in Fantine’s (Hathaway) daughter, Cosette (Seyfried), and the decision affects everyone’s fate. The dream of a better tomorrow lives. Rated PG-13

Django Unchained: Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, and Samuel L. Jackson. Django’s (Foxx) wife was taken and sold into slavery. Determined to find her, he seeks help from his mentor. The owner of a plantation, Calvin Candie (DiCaprio), bought her and he won’t give her back for anything. Rated R
