The Robotics Club experience

Stay classy, guys.

Imagine building and putting hard work into something and watching it come to life right before your eyes. In Robotics Club, you get to do just that while meeting creative and imaginative people in the process.

In the club, there is a great variety in the jobs you have and the tasks you face. “Robotics Club is special because every day is something different and you make great friends,” said junior Drew Thomas.

The two main roles in building the robot are construction and programming. The construction team builds the actual robot and its mechanisms, while the programmers’ jobs are to program the robot to be able to perform all of its functions. Thomas said, “The most fun part is that you get free roam in imagining and building the robot.”

The club is also a great learning experience. “The problem we had last year was that we had a lot of new people and we had to teach them,” said junior Alp Ozgunduz. However, last year’s team still managed to be nominated for regionals.

Now that the inexperience is gone, the club is looking forward to the future. “This year we plan to do more community outreach and win the local competitions and go to the world competition,” said junior Shayelle Downs, the head of the club’s public relations. They are also looking to challenge themselves by creating a tighter deadline. “We hope to be finished by Thanksgiving,” Downs said.

If you are looking for something new and interesting, robotics is one to consider. The ability to build whatever you imagine and see it come to life, and make great friends while you are at it, is what makes Robotics Club a truly unique experience.
