Four Years in Review

We arrived at Apex in 2008 as scared, unsure freshmen but will soon walk away in 2012 as confident, determined seniors. While each of us experienced personal changes during our high school years the world around us changed as well.


2008
February 19, 2008 Fidel Castro announces his resignation as President of Cuba.

February 28, 2008 is a leap year.

Spring 2008 Men’s basketball makes it to the state championship by winning five games
in a row as the underdog.

August 10, 2008 Michael Phelps earns a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Summer Olympics.

November 5, 2008 Barack Obama is elected as the first African-American President.

2009

Spring 2009 Apex has an infamous trial run of smart lunch.

Spring 2009 Women’s lacrosse claims a third state championship title.

Spring 2009 Swine flu outbreak.

June 12, 2009 The nation converts to all-digital broadcasts.

November 12, 2009 Scientists discover water on the moon.

December 10, 2009 James Cameron’s Avatar is released.

2010

January 12, 2010 A devastating earthquake hits Haiti.

March 21, 2010 Obamacare passes in Congress.

Fall 2010 Apex volleyball wins the state championship.

Spring 2010 Women’s soccer, men’s lacrosse, and women’s softball are all ranked number one in the Tri-Nine 4-A Conference.

December 22, 2010 “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy is repealed.

2011

January 2, 2011 7.1 magnitude earthquake hits Chile.

February 16, 2011 Borders declares bankruptcy.

March 11, 2011 Magnitude 9.0 earthquake devastates Japan.

April 29, 2011 Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding.

May 1, 2011 Navy SEALS kill Osama Bin Laden.

July 5, 2011 Florida jury finds Casey Anthony not guilty.

July 7, 2011 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II is released.

Fall 2011 Men’s basketball claims conference title.
