Apex students set new fall trends

“I've been waiting since last December for fall fashion to come back around. It’s the best season to dress for,” said Shannon Horton, senior at Apex High School. After a summer of simple styles, many students welcome the changing weather. Autumn usually comes along with new and intriguing trends, and this year is no exception as girls and boys alike show off their style.

“It’s all about boots,” said Lauren Cox, also a senior at Apex. Girls all over campus have been sporting various styles of boots. Whether they’re tall, short, brown, black, slouchy, or polished, boots are popular. “I love my Uggs, but they do get boring after a while. There are so many new styles that are coming back in for boots and I think it’s fun to try them all out,” said senior Leah Pedro. Common ways to wear boots are with a dress and leggings, skinny jeans, or shorts.

Other trends this season include corduroy, colored jeans, layers, and braided hair. Students are very passionate about their fashion. “I can tell you all you need to know about fall fashion: corduroy, corduroy, and more corduroy,” said senior Michael Silk, who can be seen wearing various pairs of corduroy pants to class. In addition to corduroy pants, multi-colored pants and jeans are all the rage recently. “I own seven pairs of different colored jeans. I’m emotionally attached to every pair,” said freshman Megan Noonan. Pastel shades of blue, purple, green, peach and red are most seen. As for the top half of the body’s apparel, layering is a trend that most everyone can accomplish. It’s as simple as it sounds, just various articles of clothing layered on top of each other to create a more dimensional look. Scarves, jackets, sweaters, and tank tops can all be layered. One more fad this season is braids. From French Braids to Fish Tails, girls are styling their hair with these elaborate designs. “It took me a little while to learn how to do a French Braid, but I love doing it now. It’s so much prettier than just a pony tail,” said senior Laura Brockington. Braids are also appearing in patterns on shirts, scarves, and shoes.

Fashion is always changing and many students find that keeping up with current trends is fun and easy to experiment with. With a little cash, people can look trendy and fashionable while still expressing themselves through their clothes. For girls, popular stores include Forever 21, American Eagle and Downtown Apex’s Fedora. As for the guys, Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, and Diamond Supply Co. are commonly worn brands. “Fashion is just art to me, I just like to dress up and try new things,” said freshman Sara Downs.
