Many can easily recall the moment Apex High received a $5,000 check for placing second in Fox 50’s 2011 Lip Dub competition. This year’s cast and crew seek to achieve similar success with a fresh, unique video.
Senior Rachel Carter and junior Erin Morris are this year’s directors. Both art students plan on using their combined creative skills to produce an interesting final product. “I’m in Art IV right now,” says Carter, “which lets me bring my creative process to set.”
Carter and Morris were crew members last year and helped with set design. Using props made from cardboard, the directors shot outside this year, allowing the video to be easily viewed. “We also want the cast to clearly mouth words,” Morris comments. The video features a song by Holy Ghost Tent Revival, a local Greensboro band.
Lip Dub members are widening the voting base this year. “We’re planning on advertising closer to when voting begins and putting signs around town, not just the school,” explains Carter.
Voting will begin on Monday, April 23 at 12:01 a.m. and last until Sunday, May 6 at 11:59 p.m. Voters must become registered users on Fox50.com, and can vote up to ten times per day.
Although the task of directing puts much pressure on Morris and Carter, the two are up for a challenge. “It would be really great to win and leave Apex knowing I helped my school,” says Carter.
